HOW TO GET A BROKER LICENSE IN TEXAS

    SIX SIMPLE STEPS

    You must be 18 years or older, have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, have at least 40 experience points, and have been licensed as a salesperson for 2 years.

    Complete 270 hours of qualifying pre-licensing education courses

    You must complete 270 hours of qualifying education within 2 years of applying to become a Texas real estate broker. Perry Real Estate School offers this education completely online and completed at your own pace. Learn more about our courses here.

    Complete the proctored course final exams

    Texas requires that each 30-hour qualifying education course has a proctored course final exam. After you finish each course, you will need to take an online proctored exam and pass with a minimum score of 70%.

    Complete 630 hours of other Commission-approved education

    The Commission requires an applicant to also complete 630 classroom hours of related real estate education. A bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university satisfies this requirement. Continuing education and 630 classroom hours from an accredited college or university without a bachelor’s degree also count towards this requirement.

    Submit your license application

    This application must be filled out and submitted to the Texas Real Estate Commission for approval. Complete the licensing process by submitting your licensing exam results to the Commission along with the license fee of $305.00. Click here for more information.

    Complete a fingerprint background check

    After you are approved to take the licensing exam, you will be required to answer a background check with your licensing application. The Commission will send instructions on how to complete the fingerprint background check. Click here for more information.

    Pass the Texas Real Estate Broker Licensing Exam

    PearsonVue administers the in-person state licensing exam. There are 145 questions based on the content outline here. You will have 4 hours to complete the exam.
